HOW FOOD ACCOUNTS TOWARDS BETTER HEALTH.
Food has a lot of effects on normal human life. Biologically food is the source of energy, while on nutrition subject, food is the source of several nutrients needed to rebuild, supply, and keep one in good health; and yet also psychologically food has an effect on human emotions. So it’s of great importance that we pay attention to what we eat because it just doesn’t affect our daily life but also the future of our health.
I. The food we eat.
Eating habits from different cultures or societies even countries at large have a great impact on what kind of food people eat.
Eating habits can be a problem solver or the cause of health issues in individuals. Starting from ethnicities, families, friends, age, and limiting diets, have an effect on what we eat.
A. Ethnicity
Different ethnicities, in general, have different opinions when it comes to what kind of food they prefer.
1. African American
They prefer soul food. The kind of food that requires a lot of frying, (deep frying).
Grilled food and a lot more. Their dishes have a lot of meat products in them.
2. Western
Generally its sandwiches, corn, potatoes, processed food, pizzas. generally starchy food (its pizzas, pasta, and cheese containing meals). Their consumer dishes are much more plain however there is high meat content in their meals. However, most of their meals are balanced diet.
3. Eastern and far east
They prefer boiled or less fried dishes, a lot of seafood and rice. One of their major dishes is sushi also they are famed for their steam dish. Their meals contain many vegetables and herbs.
While the Indian society prefers hot dishes, a lot of spices in food, it doesn’t matter the food being prepared, savory food. Eastern Europeans prefer to eat a lot of sweet food, soups, and wheat products.
4. African and Afro Caribbean
These groups usually prefer meat containing dishes and a lot of wheat and rice. For example, the common dish in Africa is Ugali, (in east Africa); this dish is all over Africa has different names depending on the region. They eat fewer fruits and vegetables but cook with less oil and not a lot of spices.
5. Arabic
The main meals contain wheat products and a lot of sweet foods.
B. Friends and age.
Young people tend to be carefree on what they eat while the elderly are cautious about what they consume. Them being cautious can be due to what they have experienced or just a habit of eating healthy. In some cases where young people idolize celebrities, they tend to eat healthily.
Friends influence in different ways, they can influence towards good or bad.
C. Countries and continents
Comparing to other countries, the USA has the leading number of fast-food restaurants that are globally recognized. They also have a lot of processed foods on sale in their stores. Not to mention these types of foods are relatively cheap.
D. Limiting diets
Limited diets are largely influenced by religions, financial status, and genetic predispositions.
Different religions have different rules on what kind of food should be eaten;
Islamic and Judaism religions are against pork products, though any other meat products consumed should be halal
Most Christian denominations aren’t strict on what food should or shouldn’t be eaten.
For Buddhists and Hindus, these religions are against pork and beef products.
Due to the restriction in different religions, some individuals are strict vegetarians while some aren’t as extreme as the others
Financial status plays a role in what we it. For those that are well off, they have a regular diet and most of their meals are balanced diet while the opposite end, they have only the essential meals and usually eat in between meals as wells poor diets.
